I
think I read something from a book on running that will help me take the next
step. It's about "running your own race". It's about the importance
of knowing yourself, as you create a plan. Joe Henderson the former editor of
runners world said, that when he first started running that he would "get
out front and stay there" but injuries and his coach taught him that this strategy put the other runners in charge of his race. It was only by knowing
himself and where he was at and using strategies that moved him forward, that he
gradually achieved the success that he wanted. He didn't win races at first,
but gradually, with fewer injuries became the best runner he could be across
his life time. "Runners who feel like they are winners, never want to
stop." "Improving is a higher level of winning." The title of
chapter 12 - Winning without having to out run anyone- from the book Run Right
Now. "I don't judge my success on what I once did, but what I keep
doing." John A. Kelley In the 1930s and 40s Kelley was a two time Boston
Marathon winner and a 3 time Olympian. He continued to run into his nineties. A
good role model.
